Today was my last full day in Seattle, tonight is my last night of being sleepless in Seattle--at least for a while. I am finding it uncomfortable to be in situated in a hotel room in the city that I view so fully as my home. My mother, in the years since I last slept in the same room with her, has apparently become a snore-er whose consistency and decibel easily rivals my father's. I am fondly remembering family vacations during which my sister and I would take turns lobbing small objects from our bed to my parents' in order to gain a temporary respite from my father's loud slumbering. There is something peculiar about the pitch of snoring--it rattles something in my bones in a way other repetitive sounds can not. Her snoring is peppered with her 'Rhino snorts'--sudden breathy roar-snores that occur, I presume, when she opens her mouth.
Enough of that. Today was a day of more goodbyes--I said goodbye to Greenlake alongside Aly and his wizened old puppy/dog, Max. I love that walk. How many times have I walked around that lake, struggling to figure out life by myself or with a friend, morning or afternoon, sun or light drizzle, high and giggley or brokenhearted and sober? Too many to count. Seriously, show of hands if you have walked GL with me? If I didn't thank you at the time, Thank You. Unfortunately, no space needle was sighted today.
I also got to take in the view of Garbage bay from the Arboretum, where I took a walk with Peter. It was an experience that I have yet to evaluate, honestly, other than it was terribly sad to know that I would not see the montlake bridge rise to let a barge with three giant piles of gravel slide by. I entertained the idea of setting up a lawn chair on top of one of the piles to play king of the mountain for a second. One thing is for sure--Peter is exeptionally easy to adore and a fantastically fun companion, even when he has recently shattered your heart into a million irretrievable pieces and you are angry at him for doing so. If that is not impressive I do not know what is.
At last, I am tired. Goodnight, Seattle
